Several things to mention that will occupy your boredom for today.
First Brand New Alice In Chains video from their new disc Black Gives Way To Blue due out in September I think. It features new vocalist William Duvall. (got the link yesterday from Metal Sucks, Who in turn got it from Metal Injection, check out both cool sites. Nevertheless,it could be removed by now. If you missed it sorry, it's pretty good.
A Looking In View
Just wanted to let the word out on that one, now back to my regular boredom post....
So yesterday, I commuted to and from work. Leaving the house around 5:30AM for the just over an hour and a half trek to the office. Then of course I leave work about 4:10PM for what is closer to an hour and forty-five minute ride home. I'm tired so it's slower and the uphill is longer.
It's about twenty five miles each way, so I get a good ride in. In the morning, I decided to exert myself for an extended amount of time
(about 30 minutes) for a tempo ride I shall call it, with my HR above 150BPM. Hey the
Tour's on, so get used to all the
"tourermalogy". More on that later...
Then once home, I rode some with Susan, we did a short ten mile loop, but because I was beat, I thought at some points she would have been able to "crack" me. (more tourermalogy)
Because of my sixty some miles of riding yesterday, I was beat down this morning. Having to do some after work errands, Susan and I decided that if I wanted to go to the Y today (WED) I should try to do it in the morning.
Well 5AM came...
5AM Went...
and if it wasn't for the puppy's internal 5:30AM clock I probably would still be asleep.
Needless to say, Today will most likely turn into a total rest day and only result in some much needed yard mowing, blind hanging and a trip to Lows.
Speaking of Susan, she has a nice write up on our eating adventures over the weekend at the Columbus Zoo, on
Fork You.
Today I'm tired and have decided to not do shit.
Let's talk about the Tour De France ~
Lance Armstrong is out of retirement, and stirring up shit. His team - Astana- is by far the most talented on paper, has the rider favored to win the race in Alberto Contador - also a former tour winner. Not to mention two other Tour Podium finishers in Levi Leiphiemer and Andreas Kloden.
Lance has been designated #2 behind Contador, but on Tuesday's stage, he made a move that left Contador in the dust so to speak. Was this intentional? Lance says it was just smart racing, but the fact that it was Hincapies' Columbia team whose a long time Lance pal, who knows?
Yesterday's Team Time Trial, Astana kicked but, here is where I think Lance wanted the jersey. In my opinion, if he had the Yellow Jersey, then if Contador attacked it would make the spaniard look like the bad guy. However the Yellow Jersey was not to be, as Lance is in second by a fraction of a second. Contador is third 19seconds back. Astana holds 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th places I think.
It's going to be interesting once in the mountains.
Finally, as promised yesterday:
The Caveman Recipe of the Week
The first CAVEMAN Recipe of the Week is ... so far and probably will be forever ...Susan's favorite - heck it's even her picture of the prep work. (actually there's only been about three that she likes)
I'm giving the best first because it's buried in this post so it not too many people should see it.
It is titled "Cordain's Fennel Salmon", and it comes from the book The Paleo Diet For Athletes, by Loren Cordain, and Joe Friel. Susan and I just refer to it as "Fennel Salmon"
We eat this almost once a week I bet or some form of it at least. I'm exaggerating but we eat it a lot.
So how does it go you ask, don't worry it's easy anyone can do i?
first the ingredients you need are:
- 3 Tbs Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 small fresh fennel bulb, cored and slivered
- 1 1/2lbs of Salmon Fillets
- 1 teaspoon of dried dill weed
- 1 teaspoon of dried basil
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F, Coat the bottom and sides of a baking dish (9X13 works great) with two tablespoons of the oil. Spread the slivered fennel over the bottom of the dish, carefully place the salmon on top of the fennel and drizzle with the remaining oil. Sprinkle the Dill and Basil. Cover with foil and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Serve. This serves four to eight the recipe says, but we like it so much that estimate is closer to two to four.
Some hints we like our Salmon skinned and often remove it when we are not feeling lazy, however if you leave the skin on you'll probably place the skin side down, thus I also put some fennel on top of the fillet.
Also fresh dill adds a nicer flavor in my opinion.
Now here are the Nutritional Counts for one serving as computed by NutriBase 7:
Calories 490, Protein 58g, Carb 4g, Fat 25.5g, Sat Fat 4g, Chol 161mg, and Sodium 157 mg (obviously if you add salt this sodium will go up)
Try the recipe and purchase the book if you like it.
