Well this is another one of those beers I purchased a couple weeks ago at Trader Joes in Columbus.
In my shopping frenzy, I saw the word "Russian" and due to my Lithuinian heritage I said.. "Cool, Russian beer", So I plopped down my $8 for this four pack of 12 oz bottles.
It wasn't until I started drinking this, and looking at the back of the box that this 9% beer is actually brewed in California from North Coast Brewing - WHAT?? California?? So I began to actually read the back of the container - and get a load of this shit -
"Contrary to what the name suggests, Russian Imperial Stout was originally brewed in 18th Century England." The label even goes on to suggest that Rasputin loved this style of beer, but to avoid any legal claims by the late Great Wizard's estate, they clarify with "Legends that attribute his tenacity to his appetite for Russian Imperial Stout are unproven." - Marketing 101.
However as per the brewer's description, this is a very rich style and very flavorful, and it is Black. I've actually been nursing two over the last couple days, and only decided to finish these last two during Sunday Night's Oscar boring bonanza. ('cept I only drank one because I Susan and I want to have steaks this week, and I think this last one would go great with that meal_
So how does it taste?? Good - little more bolder and richer than what I like, but I'm having a hard time coming up with something that I dislike about it. It has that typical taste that makes one think of coffee. Throw in some chocolate and you have this beer. It's really good and the 9% is hardly noticable but because you feel really relaxed after drinking, well you know it's 9%.
If you're out of state try and find this beer, it's pretty good. I think I'll add it right up there with a few of my favorites.
I bought this unification for myself. I have been using them since end indicatory of August. So far, I preoccupied within (easy) reach 5-7 lbs which I gained past the summer while I was visiting my parents. I didn't conformation my eating convention dramaticly, but I spree recompense other ear the victuals I ate. If anyone missing there wants to imprecise the last five lbs, you should give a try
