OH my gosh... Sunday doesn't bode well for my 230lb frame.
I was prompt at the weekly group ride meeting that I attend oh, semi annually, today. There was one guy there before me. Matt I think his name was, lives in Pt. Pleasant, works in Eleanor, and is evidently a glutton for punishment as he has attended a few of these rides. Then eventually, Dwayne shows up. Long Time Know See. Then Tom.... Then Diesel and AHole. Seriously he calls himself that! (btw ~ Ahole is my Fantasy Football Commissioner ) Diesel is the Mtn Bike Guru around these parts... plus he's the sperm provider for my tech support. Give him props, and if you need your computer fixed give his offspring some money. He can do it.
Now is a good time to note, Diesel may be the guru... but I want to back up about 15 years ~ 1990 . I AM THE GARY FISHER OF MOUNTAIN BIKING IN THE MILTON AREA. I AM THE ORIGINAL FAT CYCLIST. my entrepreneurship and creative writing skills have all let me down... that's my excuse. lol
I should do a
..... FAMILY TREE like thing to show the history of Mtn Biking in the Milton Area.
I will save another post for that....I may be the Gary Fisher, but Diesel is by far the God Father.
Well, I haven't really ridden much in a few years - hard that is... since about 2003. Lately I've had this burning cancer inside that says I'm going to do the Black Bear 40K on Sunday. Some may call it inspiration, but if today's ride was any indication - "cancer" is the better terminology.
Should I race? No. It will be a Lesson in Futility. I'm simply doing it for the sake of doing it.
Let's just say after today's post ride meeting (Is now a good time to say that the group dropped me?) I informed Diesel and Ahole (Shit I don't even know if Diesel goes by Diesel anymore he may have been labled some other crazy nick name by some black woman) - to give me a call when they get on the road. I'll head out to the highway, and meet them up there.
I also told them they didn't have to wait for me to finish, just grab a pizza or whatever food they have and hide it under my vehicle and I'll ravenously consume it once I actually pull my dead body across the finish line. (heck the finish line may no longer be there when I finish)
I say this because tonights ride across one half the length, took me about two hours.
Ladies and gents... my last race was in 2003 it will show come Sunday. Not that I was ever a consitent podium finisher, but a better description would be more like "competitive amusement". On Sunday "Trail Hazard" shall be the term of the day.
If you're bored this weekend come to Kanawha State Forest and see just how bad I can be.
Technically, Amy Tolliver gave me that name but it seemed so fitting. And, I thought I was more than just your FF Commish...I'm hurt.
